Building a strong patent portfolio can enhance the value of a company. Strong patent portfolios are oftentimes the driving force in events such as raising venture capital, forming strategic relationships or joint ventures, public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions. This panel will discuss how to strategically design the patent portfolio to reflect present and future business goals.

Michael T. Siekman, Counsel, Wolf, Greenfield & Sacks P.C.
Michael assists clients in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries with intellectual property matters including interferences, licensing, opinions, patent prosecution and portfolio strategy, enforcement options, and litigation risks. Michael has well over a decade of experience in patent prosecution. He has overseen the prosecution of patent applications in areas such as gene therapy, protein expression, antibodies, recombinant vaccines, and cytokines, as well as traditional pharmaceutical technologies. He has also coordinated the worldwide prosecution of patent applications, including European opposition proceedings. Michael has expertise in conducting all phases of patent interferences, from provoking or avoiding an interference during prosecution, through Final Hearing in the biotechnology field, as well as other fields. He has particular experience negotiating settlement agreements, including having orchestrated the three-way settlement of the ex vivo human gene therapy interferences.

Dr. Monika V. Vnuk, Associate, Oxford Bioscience Partners
Monika is an Associate with OBP IV. Prior to joining Oxford, she was a Fellow at the Health Care Entrepreneurship Program at Boston University, where she focused on business analysis and funding strategies while serving as a liaison to the business community. Monika has significant experience in the healthcare data industry where she completed internships with Quintiles Transnational and McKesson HBOC. She holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Philosophy, Magna cum laude, from Boston University and an M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine. Monika is a 2000 Inductee to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. While at Oxford, Monika has been instrumental in helping Oxford start portfolio companies such as Descartes and Cyberkinetics and is currently an active observer on their boards of directors.
