Richard G. Horan - Sr. Managing Partner, Slater Technology Fund, Inc.

The Slater Technology Fund, Inc. assists companies in taking great ideas from the laboratory to the marketplace. The Fund helps to ensure that products envisioned in Rhode Island are developed in Rhode Island, creating a robust source of high-tech employment for our state.

Slater launches new Rhode Island companies through a multilevel program of seed investment in startups, grants to university-based researchers, business development coaching and high-impact networking. Slater is also a resource for potential investors - providing access to quality ventures.
As Senior Managing Partner, Rich brings to the position over 20 years of experience in investment banking, venture capital and management of venture-backed companies. A graduate of Dartmouth College and the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, Rich joined the Capital Markets Group at Bank of America in San Francisco, CA in 1980. In 1986, he became a partner at Johnston Associates, a Princeton, NJ-based venture capital firm focused on early stage investing in biotechnology and healthcare. In 1998, he formed Sachem Ventures LLC, an independent venture management and advisory business focused on early stage ventures in biomedical and healthcare fields. 

Rich has served as CEO of a number of portfolio companies, including: Immunicon Corp., a Philadelphia-based developer of cellular diagnostic systems; Praelux Corp. (formerly SEQ LTD), a Princeton-based firm developing advanced technology platforms for use in drug discovery; Creance Corp., a Cambridge-based drug discovery start-up; and Medical Media Systems, Inc., a medical imaging business based in Hanover, NH.
