Andrey J. Zarur, Ph.D., President & CEO, Bioprocessors

Andrey is a seasoned entrepreneur with over 10 years of international industrial and academic experience. He has participated in the start-up process of several biotechnology and engineering companies, both as operational executive and as member of the Board of Directors.

Prior to founding BioProcessors, Andrey served as Chief Operating Officer of Starlab N/V, a European fundamental research company. Besides his role as COO, Andrey also managed the Life Sciences Division of Starlab with an emphasis on functional genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics. Under his management, the company grew to over 100 employees and secured research contracts with leading international companies, including Nokia, Sony, Philips, and Procter & Gamble.  Previously he co-founded two ventures in Latin America, GDI and Star Engineering, providing consulting and engineering services to the pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries, respectively.  As Chairman and CEO of GDI he built an organization with sales presence in 5 countries and over 60 employees providing engineering services to fine chemical, pharmaceutical manufacturing and diagnostics companies.  Previously he was the R&D Brand Manager for Health-Care products at Procter & Gamble Latin America.

Andrey earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Master's degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has authored several refereed papers published in leading scientific journals, including Nature and Langmuir.  He is the author of over 70 issued and pending patents, and has been the recipient of various prestigious scientific and management awards. 

Andrey serves on the scientific advisory board of various life sciences companies, including Anecova S.A. in Switzerland and StemLife Corp. in the United States.  He also serves on the Board of Infantia, a non-profit foundation dedicated to providing education, support and health services to underprivileged children in developing nations, and is a Sponsor of UNICEF.
