Raising money to grow your company is essential for any entrepreneur. In this forum a panel of venture capitalists will discuss various methods of raising capital from their perspective: friends and family, angel investors, venture capital, government grants and business development loans. The panel will describe how companies can make themselves attractive to potential investors and will also discuss the state of the venture capital industry at present. The networking reception following the meeting will provide opportunities to mingle with investors.

Jeffrey Vogel, Managing Director, Velocity Equity Partners
Jeff has over 15 years experience in operating and financing high tech software companies. Prior to co-founding Velocity in 2000, Jeff was Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Research and Development for eBusiness Technologies, a leader in XML Content Management Systems. In 1989, Jeff co-founded Electronic Book Technologies (EBT), a pioneer in SGML and XML information systems. At EBT, Jeff led R&D until 1996 when he helped sell the company to Inso, a publicly traded company. From 1996 to 1998, Jeff was Vice President of Engineering at Inso's Electronic Publishing Solutions business unit and was also very active in the company's corporate development activities where he helped acquire and integrate upwards of a half dozen acquisitions.
Gordon Penman, Partner, Brown Rudnick Berlack Israels LLP and Managing Director, The Venture Capital Fund of New England
Gordon has spent his entire legal career at Brown Rudnick representing public and private corporations in a wide array of corporate transactions. He regularly represents foreign and domestic clients in connection with the acquisition and disposition of public and private targets in transactions valued up to $1 billion. Gordon has structured numerous types of acquisitions including, auctions, LBOs, acquisitions and dispositions of product lines, divisions and businesses, cross-border transactions, poolings, earnouts, tax-free deals, and forward and reverse triangular mergers. He has extensive experience representing companies and investors in venture capital and private equity transactions, in addition to representing issuers in public offerings of their securities.
Joe Caruso, Founder, Bantam Group
Joe has been an advisor to CEO’s and an advocate for entrepreneurship for over fifteen years - providing strategic advice, investing in early stage companies, and serving as an active board member. Joe serves as mentor, coach, and personal advisor to CEOs and entrepreneurs, dealing with issues of strategy, leadership, team building, venture capital, joint ventures, deal structure, exit strategies, and matters of personal growth.
